The Lhasa Apso is a hardy, faithful, and devoted companion dog who stands sentinal to the home
and heart of all who know him. Bred as sentinel dogs in the temples of Tibet, Lhasa Apsos are an ancient
breed originally the exclusive property of Tibetan monks and the Dalai Lama. Lhasas may be dignified
or playful in turn, often becoming clown-like and exuberant in play. While Lhasas are lovely when
in full coat, they are equally charming in short haircuts. Many people with allergies do not
experience allergic symptoms while living with a Lhasa Apso in their home.
Central Maryland Lhasa Apso Fanciers (CMLAF):
We are a group of breeders and Lhasa lovers who are devoted to the breed and the appreciation of Lhasas. Placement of dogs of excellent temperament and sound breeding as beloved companions is of equal importance with breeding dogs that excel in the show ring. CMLAF has been in existence since 1972 and is a Lhasa Apso Specialty club. It's breeder-members belong to the American Lhasa Apso Club which is the national Lhasa Apso club recognized by AKC (the American Kennel Club). CMLAF members breed AKC registered dogs, show their dogs and endeavor to breed true to the Lhasa Apso standard. Some members show their Lhasas in performance events such as agility trials, obedience competitions, and rally. Most breeder-members are located in the mid-Atlantic states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Delaware.
